Welcome to the first new edition of THE VORTEX VOICE.
The Vortex Voice is a weekly compendium of all things Rugby.
This week we’re focusing on the Women’s Six Nations and the Men’s and Women’s Sevens which have just wrapped up in Hong Kong.
The Six Nations had big wins for both England and France as they demolished their opposition—France beating Scotland 38-10 and England beating Wales 67-12. Looks like these two will be major players later this year in the finals.
In the World Rugby Sevens in Hong Kong, the winners were Argentina in the Men’s Sevens—for the first time. Kai Tak Stadium was the venue for these games.
New Zealand took the Women’s Sevens crown for the third time in a row, defeating Australia 26-19 in a tight match.
Canada took the bronze medal. Go Kiwis — threepeaters now!
An even closer Men’s Sevens final saw Los Pumas (Argentina) defeat France 12-7.
Argentina is now 16 games unbeaten, with Australia taking the bronze.
The big news in the Sevens was a major food shortage at the tournament. Hungry fans nearly rioted after waiting over 45 minutes in line, only to find out they’d run out of food. It seems the organizers severely underestimated the number of fans who would show up.
This only confirms in our minds that women’s rugby is rising globally.
